What to expect
The workshop combines work on your content, hands-on presentation training and insights from people who look at research projects from a business perspective. It is not about simplifying science, but about being able to select the information that matters to people outside academia and communicate it clearly.
During the workshop, every participant will prepare their own pitch and practice it out loud. Six selected participants will then present it to the whole group and receive immediate feedback.
The event will be held in English.
Program
12:30–13:00 | Registration and networking
13:00–13:45 | How to communicate the value of your research
Find out what business people, investors and potential partners need to hear about your research. We will focus on three key questions:
- What problem do you solve?
- What solution do you offer?
- Who does your solution create value for?
You will also learn the basic structure of a pitch deck adapted to the needs of researchers and research teams.
14:00–16:00 | How to present your research
In the second block, you will prepare your own 120-second pitch. We will show you how to grab attention right from the start, how to choose your strongest piece of evidence or argument, how to close your pitch and how to prepare slides that work even in a short talk.
Six teams will have the chance to try out their pitch in front of an audience and get immediate feedback. You don't need any slides or a finished presentation in advance – we will build the pitch together during the workshop.
16:15–17:00 | How investors see research
The afternoon will close with a panel discussion with an investor who focuses on research-based projects and two spin-off founders who made the move from academia to business.
You will hear what they look for in research projects, what information they need to make further decisions and which mistakes keep coming up when researchers present their work. There will also be time for questions from participants.
17:00–18:00 | Networking
