Application and Selection Process

You can work on your application until the 7th of August and you´ll find it on

Technological partners of JIC STARCUBE 2016 will be involved in the selection process. They will evaluate those teams within their area of interest. 

The selection will be based on the business potential and on technological level. Up to 30 best startups will be invited to JIC STARCUBE Jam. Expect the invitation no later than the 22nd of August.

The last stage of the selection process is the JIC STARCUBE Jam. One day event for up to 30 pre-selected teams, where they will have the opportunity to pitch their project to us and few selected mentors. Teams from outside of the Czech Republic can join this event via skype. Organizers will then pick up to 10 finalist and invite them to join the 3months acceleretor JIC STARCUBE program.

26. / 27. 8. 2016 – JIC STARCUBE Jam


Participants in the JIC STARCUBE set off in September on an intensive "training camp" outside Brno. The BootCamp also includes workshops and seminars focusing on business strategy, mission and vision, finance (investment, bootstraping etc.) and lean methodology. Teams try out their first start-up pitches here and they will meet the technological partners. The BootCamp also includes teambuilding activities and meetings with interesting guests.

12. - 16. 9. 2016 JIC STARCUBE BootCamp

Modul 1: Finance and tools for startups

During a two-day barrage of seminars and workshops focused on finance participants will meet the following themes: revenue streams, pricing, cash flow and financial planning. The participants will also get to know few useful tools for startups to work with.

Every module will include the Expert Time – regular meetings with mentors and experts, and leadership track.

JIC Expert Day

Teams can expect an intense encounter with experts during this half day event. During several hours they will have the opportunity to get their feedback and finds out the specific ways in which the experts can help them.

4. 10. 2016 JIC Expert Day

Module 2: Development management, service design, value propoposition and presentation skills

Seminars will focus on how to manage the product development, which tools to use and how to develop effectively. Service design and value proposition will help the teams to adjust the product to the specific needs of the customers. The preparation for the final pitch at JIC STARCUBE Show begins.

13. - 14. 10. 2016 Module 2

Module 3: JIC STARCUBE Trial Show, marketing

In the third module teams and start-up try out their start-up pitch at the JIC STARCUBE Trial Show. Results so far will be presented and their advance since the start of JIC STARCUBE will be assessed by a panel of experts. There will also be seminars focused on marketing and it´s specifics for startups.

26. - 27. 10. 2016 Module 3

Module 4: Sales, strategic partnership and legal

Fourth module will be composed of several topics. The legal part of the module will be about all the useful stuff you need to know when founding a company, specifics of Czech and European legislation, about the protection of intellectual property or about the issues concerning the shareholding in a company.

In the sales part of the module you will learn more about „the art of sales“ for B2B and B2C and how to establish and maintain strategic partnerships.

10. – 11. 11. 2016 – Module 4

Modul 5: Strategy, PR and presentation training

Fifth module is dedicated to PR for startups, networking skills and intense training of final pitches and presentations for JIC STARCUBE Show. The dryrun for the Show will take place on 1st of December.

The final demo day, a competition for prizes and under the glare of the media. In the JIC STARCUBE Show teams must interest not only a jury of experts, but also professionals in the public. Private investors and representatives from the major technology companies will also be in the auditorium. Simply, the JIC STARCUBE Show is an evening full of opportunities.

Conditions of participation

Who can apply?

JIC STARCUBE 2016 will accept projects in 4 technological and 5 application areas: Big Data Analytics, Sensors, Augmented/Virtual Reality, ICT Security / Industry 4.0, Retail 2.0, Paperless Office, Smart City/Home/Office, Secure Family/Home.

Any team or startup working on a product or service in these areas can sign up for this programme, but it has to consist of at least two people. You can apply even if you have „only“ developed a unique technology and don´t know how to deploy it. If you already found a company you cannot be older than three years. 

The programme will be held in English.

I am a foreigner. Do I have to be there in person for the whole programme?

Two members of your team should be present, ideally your CEO and one other team member. The presence of both team members during the whole programme is not obligatory. You can participate on the JIC STARCUBE Jam via Skype.

How much does it cost to be a part of your programme?

The price of the programme is 2% share of your company. In case you have not found the company just yet, there will be an option for this share. You can find all the details in the JIC STARCUBE SAFE term sheet (for existing companies / for future companies).

How can I apply?

The first step is to register on the website You can fill out your application and always return to it, but remember that it must complete by the 7th of August 2016. After that we select up to 30 teams, which we invite for a JIC STARCUBE Jam. There you will present your project and we pick a maximum of 10 participants for JIC STARCUBE.

What will the programme give me?

In only three months we will help you together with the technological partners to finalize a product or service prototype, or to find the right application of your technologoy. You will have the opportunity to access unique prototyping devices and the benefits provided by our supporters and help of experienced experts. At JIC STARCUBE you will also finalize your business plan as well as business and marketing strategy. We will focus on starting a company, setting up its processes and planning your development for the subsequent months. We will be at your side as you enter the market – not only locally, but also internationally. We will also connect you with a wide network of experts, mentors, investors and potential business partners. 

Why is the whole JIC STARCUBE programme held in English?

This programme is designed for teams and startups from all over the world and Czech participants are expected to have international ambitions.

What financial help comes with the JIC STARCUBE programme?

We offer 2 packages of financial help to JIC STARCUBE participants: 

Package I: we will provide up to CZK 50,000 to each team for product development, prototyping and testing. You can also use this money for services related to company development. These can also include legal and tax counselling or graphic and copywriting services. Two members of your team can also get CZK 3,000 each month to help cover their basic living costs.

Package II: if you are not from Brno, we can cover the travel costs for two of your team members up to € 350 (for foreign team members) or CZK 1000 (for Czech team members). In addition to that, we also pay accommodation costs for two team members up to CZK 3000 per month per person. 

Adding it all up, this means we can offer teams from outside Brno up to € 3600. The financial help is possible thanks to the support of the City of Brno.
