Seventh Framework Programme for research, technological development and demonstration activities (FP7) is the main financial tool of the European Union to support European research. FP7 will last for seven years from 2007 until 2013 and has a total budget of over 50 billion eur.

Participation in FP7 is open to a wide range of organisations and individuals. Research groups at universities or research institutes, transnational companies, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), public or governmental administration and individuals from any country in the world may participate in FP7.

Project proposals may be submitted only in response to open calls for proposals published by the European Commission. Calls are published on the web site dedicated to EU-supported research www.cordis.europa.eu/fp7/calls
